Who this covers
This notice describes how the Murren Academy app and website (academy.camurren.com), operated by C.A. Murren & Sons Company, Inc. (“Murren”, “we”), collect and use information about learners. Murren Academy is a training platform for Murren employees and invited trade partners. You cannot create an account on your own: an Academy administrator provisions your learner account and gives you sign-in access.
What we collect
- Account and identity. Your name, work (or personal, if you have no work address) email, employee code, job title, department and supervisor, as entered by your administrator or provided by the company roster. If you sign in with a password, we store only a salted hash of it, never the password itself. If you sign in with Microsoft, Apple or Google, that provider tells us your name and email (and, for Microsoft, your organization’s tenant) so we can match you to the account your administrator created; we never receive your password for that service.
- Learning records. Which courses you are enrolled in, the lessons you open, your answers to knowledge checks and assessments, scores, acknowledgements, completions, certificates and transcript entries. This is the product: it is how your training is credited.
- Content you submit. If your administrator has enabled Field Reels contributions, a video you choose to upload together with the title, description and category you type. Uploads go to a moderator for review and are never published automatically. The app asks for camera, microphone or photo-library access only at the moment you choose or record such a video; it never reads your photo library in the background.
- Live polls. When you join a live poll in a class, the nickname you choose and the answers you tap. You do not need an account to join a live poll. If you are signed in, your answers are also recorded against your learner record so they can count toward your training, unless the trainer runs the poll anonymously.
- Notifications. If you turn on notifications in the app, a push token that lets us address notifications to your device, together with the device type and app version. We also keep the in-app notifications sent to you (for example, a new assignment or a session reminder) so you can read them in your notifications inbox.
- Session and device information. A sign-in session identifier stored in a secure cookie, the time of your sign-in, your IP address as seen by our servers, and whether you are using the app or the website (so the app can keep you signed in for longer). We keep ordinary server logs for security and troubleshooting.
- Kept on your device. The app keeps a small local journal of answers that have not yet reached our servers (for example, if you lose connection mid-quiz) so that nothing you entered is lost. It is sent when you reconnect and cleared when you sign out.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your location.
- When you choose Scan QR code to join a live poll, the camera image is read on your device to find the code; it is not recorded, stored or sent to us. The camera and microphone record only when you choose to record a Field Reel, and nothing is sent until you submit it.
- When you save or share a transcript, certificate or class file, your device’s share sheet handles it. We do not learn where you saved or sent it.
- We do not read your contacts, calendar or messages.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We do not sell information about you.
How we use it
To deliver your assigned and elected training, grade and credit your work, issue certificates and transcripts, show your supervisors and training administrators who has completed which training, send you training notifications your company has turned on (for example, an assignment or a reminder), moderate contributed Reels, keep the service secure, and meet Murren’s record-keeping obligations for safety and compliance training.
Who can see it
Your learning records are visible to you, to Murren’s training administrators and, where your company has configured it, to your supervisor. In a live poll, your nickname is shown on the trainer’s screen to the class, and the trainer sees the answers given; results are shown to the class as totals, not by name. A trainer can remove a nickname from a poll. In addition, your administrator may issue you a training-profile QR code (for example, a hard-hat sticker). Anyone signed in to Murren Academy who scans it — typically a foreman, superintendent or safety officer verifying qualifications on site — sees your first name and last initial, the courses you have completed and your certifications with their expiry dates. Each view is logged, and the code can be revoked by an administrator. Murren uses service providers to run the platform — cloud hosting and storage (Amazon Web Services, United States), email delivery through Murren’s Microsoft 365 tenant, and push-notification delivery through Expo (650 Industries, Inc., United States) and Apple’s push notification service — and they process data only on our instructions. We may disclose information when the law requires it or to protect the safety of our people. We do not share your information with anyone for their own marketing.
How long we keep it
Training records are retained for as long as your company is required to keep them for safety, certification and compliance purposes, which can extend beyond the end of your employment. Sign-in sessions expire automatically. The on-device journal is cleared when you sign out. Your device’s push token is deleted when you sign out of the app or when your device stops accepting notifications from us. Live-poll nicknames and answers are kept with that poll’s results.
Your choices
- You can sign out at any time from the More tab in the app or the account menu on the website.
- You can review your learner profile and transcript in the app and on the website, and ask your training administrator to correct anything that is wrong.
- Because accounts are provisioned by your company rather than created by you, closing your account is handled by your training administrator. You may also ask us directly at the address below; company record-keeping obligations may require us to retain your training history after the account is closed.
- You can turn notifications on or off at any time in the app or in your device’s Settings.
- You can withdraw camera permission at any time in your device’s Settings. Doing so only means you type the live-poll PIN instead of scanning the QR code.
Children
Murren Academy is for working adults. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
